Mr Yard
provided this written report ...
• The
re-grades of the Under 14 competitions have been
completed and draws are on the web site. The ‘new’ draws
will have a ripple effect with diamond allocations in
other competitions. I’ll advise those changes later
together with some further changes to avoid games
‘overlapping’ into each other.
As
foreshadowed the Street North competition has been
collapsed with Baulkham Hills, Oakville and
Carlingford being included in Street West while
Hawkesbury have moved to Hay League.
If
this had not occurred we would have had the
ludicrous situation of conducting three four team
competitions each with a three game final series.
There is nothing to suggest that Baulkham Hills,
Oakville or Carlingford are anything other than,
dare I say it, second division teams – certainly
Baulkham Hills are as the club has a Hay League
team. All teams that were in Street North were
defeated on Saturday.
The
only problem maybe how the points score finish.
Hawkesbury are well placed if taking its 14
competition points with it. In Street West all three
clubs being transferred from Street North will be
out of the top four. This may or may not be a
problem depending on the game results from here on
in….but really once the Representative Season
concludes on 5th December teams should be able to be
‘Masters of their own destiny’ with their results.
Same
applies to Rouse Hill and Blacktown going ‘down’ to
Street South. Both these teams were defeated in the
Southern Conference games on Saturday.
Because of the lateness of the redraws the draws do
not have teams playing each other an equal number of
times. It was either use the maximum available weeks
or have teams play as few as 15 games in the season
– that was not considered an option..
There would only be one other re grade I would
consider – it is in Cashmore North where I would
‘swap’ Castle Hill in North with Kellyville.
Kellyville is very well graded especially with
Kellyville’s ’acquisition’ this season of a pitcher
in Kieran Marsh.
It
would be an easy re draw to achieve – straight
substitution of teams. I was initially concerned
about the standard of Winston Hills in this grade –
however Winston Hills has indicated that it wishes
to remain in Street North. The fairest time to
effect this redraw is after the completion of a full
round in Cashmore South (21st November) however that
is only weeks into a seven week round of Cashmore
North.
• In the
next week we will begin promoting and accepting player
nominations for the January Holiday Little League
competition. Hopefully we will be able to use the email
system to contact players. Clubs are also requested to
advertise the competition among its teams.
There is an upper limit with available spaces there
is a maximum of six teams with 12 players in each.
That is a total of 72 players. The proposed letter
to players is included in the correspondence.
• There
have been two Judiciaries conducted in November.
Peter
Theos was ejected in a game in Cashmore South.
He
was found guilty of not complying with a reasonable
request of the Umpire. There was no suspension
imposed. The Judiciary was influenced by the
Umpire’s evidence that he had no objection to Coach
Theos’ attitude toward him or the language used. It
was also considered that the situation was
exacerbated by a ‘break down’ in the procedure of
the way protests are noted in the scorebook. Both
parties were at fault in this aspect
Hayden
Bray was ejected in a T Ball game in Jeff Catt League.
He was charged with Unsportsmanlike behaviour and abuse
of an Umpire
From
the written reports submitted in support of Hayden
it would appear that there certainly was a level of
antagonism throughout the game. Clearly the Castle
Hill parents considered the collision which sparked
the incident to be deliberate. The Umpire however
did not think the collision was deliberate. The
Judiciary was not completely satisfied that the
charge of Unsportsmanlike behaviour and abuse of an
Umpire were proven. It did however consider that
there was a level of antogism in the game in which
Hayden had a role to play at toward the end of the
game, but he was not solely responsible for the
problem.
It
was also found that Hayden was guilty of addressing
the Umpire in a degrotary and condescending manner.
There was no penalty imposed.
When
you read the parent’s report you may wish to take
some matters further – however unless something
changes any committee will run into the same
problems of apportioning blame as the Judiciary
encountered.
There is a recommendation that the anti collision
rule be strengthened by rewording it to include
words recklessly, intentionally or carelessly making
contact with an opponent.
In both
instances the Coaches ejected have been found guilty and
this will be recorded in the Judiciary Register that has
been established.
• The
Ground Officials Vests have been ordered and delivery
will be by end of November.
• Still
have still to distribute the Thermo hydrographs to those
Clubs not at the last meeting - they will be distributed
tonight.
• Dennis
Grogan has resigned as Delegate for Rouse Hill. Dennis’
replacement is James Power. We would like to thank
Dennis for his contribution to Hills and certainly hope
that he will return sometime in the future.
• The
replay date (14 November) for those games washed out on
3rd October is drawing neigh. I am working on ‘old’
information as far as games played– I am a week behind
working on information as at 31 October.
I
cannot see any extension to the replay date … we
were 'generous' in the first place allowing six
weeks because of the School Holiday period.
As
usual with Midweek or Replays the date always appear
as something they have 'plenty of time' to
organize...and do almost nothing. Games not played
as at the weekend of 31st October were
-
Youth League 1, Cashmore North 1, Cashmore South
1, Hay 1, Street West 2,
Street South 4 (all games), Douglass 2, Leonard
North 3 (all games),
Leonard South 4 (all games), Bergan 2, Petroff
1, Daisley 2, Vigenser 2,
Under 8 unsure as results are unclear – however
there is certainly one game not played.
This
supports the theory that the further you go down in
grades you go the less interest there is.
The
next critical date will be 19th December, which is
the date that the first of the mid-week games have
to be completed by.
• BNSW
issued an instruction requiring all Live- ball players,
Coaches, Umpires and Volunteers to sign a Code of
Conduct form.
Peter Schmidt has examined the Hills Clubs
registration forms and consider that there is only
one club does not comply with the BNSW requirement.
That club has agreed to do so this season.
As
an aside ‘Imitation is the greatest compliment’ –
the letter from the JLSC is almost as though the
person writing the letter had the BSC Report in
front of them
• We
certainly had an issue with the Under 16 State Team
shutting down all State team and ‘train on squad’
players from pitching and catching on Friday to play a
scrimmage game in front of a USA Scout on Saturday. Did
not even inform us that the ‘Train On’ players were
required.
This
ban had an adverse effect on Winston Hill which has
five State Players. I did attempt to swap the rounds
of the competition to give Winston Hills the Bye,
however Castle Hill’s Coaches could not alter
arrangements they had made.
To
have this ‘dropped on’ a team / Association on a
Tuesday or Wednesday is just unacceptable. This was
nothing to do with the State Team, two months from
the National Championship, urgently needing to play
under game conditions, rather appearing a lot to do
with the visit of a USA Scout. This is another
illustration of the regard that local competitions/
Associations are held by BNSW.
Among
the correspondence forwarded to clubs this month were
*
Opportunity to host Under 12 Final Series (5th and
6th December)
* Sport Youth and Recreation Course
* Free Community Coach Training Program
* Details of a Manly Gala Day
• Hills
fared well in the State Team selections
Under 16 have eight players selected: Jake Austin,
Harrison Garrett, Jordan Greenlees – Brown, Josh
Guyer, Jackson Reynolds, Andrew Riddell, Zachary
Shepherd and Dominic Woodward. Ethan Cattell is the
20th player
Under 14 have five Hills’ players selected, they
are: Bryce Clarke, Dean Frew, Joel Dyer, Cameron
Power and Mika Zammit.
• The
Under 12 and 14 Representative Teams have completed the
first section of the Representative Season and both are
undefeated.
Phase 2 of the competition commences next Sunday
where the top four teams play a round robin that
does nothing other than determining the ranking for
the final series on 5th December. Each team will
have two of the three games ‘at home’.
Unfortunately, it will mean four continuous weeks of
restrictions affecting club teams for no real
purpose.
The
Under 16 team suffered its first defeat last Sunday.
Worst still is the fact that Peter Olson is likely to be
suspended for two weeks for a breach of a Protection
Rule.
Rarely
do we boast about our success at representative level,
however what the Under 12 team achieved in its 16-0 win
over Manly was nothing less than outstanding. In a six
innings game, the team used three pitchers, who threw
between them a total of 56 pitchers. That is an
absolutely outstanding achievement, not only by the
pitchers but by the field players supporting the
pitchers.
• We
will again offer at least two holiday camps in January
plus special Hitting Clinics.
The dates of the camps will be 5th -7th , 12th-14th and
19th – 21st January.
Minimum age continues to be 9 years of age
• I am
suggesting a three game round robin final in Douglass
League. Already we have two competitions within one with
Castle Hill’s two teams and Baulkham Hills in Douglass
and Hawkesbury, Winston Hills and Kellyville in the
‘Plate’ Competition. The suggestion is a three game
round robin (one round being a mid week) with the two
leading teams after that mini series to meet in Grand
Final.
If the
midweek is unacceptable then a week has to ‘shaved’ off
the draw to allow the first of the three games to be
played on 27th February.
The
Secretary’s report was accepted. |
