Congratulations, Hills North Little League team ...

AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONS

Last weekend, the Hills North Little League team clinched the Australian National Title and booked itself a trip to Hong Kong in July to play in the Asia-Pacific Regional tournament.

Although we've had dozens of Hills kids playing for their country in National teams over the years, this is the first time a Hills team in its own right will play on the world stage. Well done to all of you, and good luck! Full coverage is available at HillsLittleLeague.org.au. Newspaper article here. Podcast of Greg's interview on Baseball Radio National here.

More Congratulations ...
The Baseball Oceania "Autumn Classic" tournament was played in Queensland over the Anzac Day long weekend. From Hills, Tim Wakefield, Jordan Greenlees-Brown, Eamonn Davis, Zachary Shepherd, Scott Richards and Cameron Power were the players selected.

In a dominant exhibition, NSW went through the tournament undefeated. Zac Shepherd also collected MVP honours. You can read the BNSW wrap here.

Annual Report ...

The AGM is will be held in July (formal notice yet to be issued), at which time a new Executive Committee will be elected. The President's Annual Report, which will be presented on the night, is available here now.

Three of the best...
To complete the trifecta of congratulations this week, well done to Hayden Bray, Zac Shepherd and Tim Wakefield, on their selection into the Australian Cal Ripken team for 2008. All three NSW reps were from Hills this year, and it's the first time that has happened in this high-profile event. It's the actually second time we've had three boys involved:- last time was in 2003 when Brenton Nahirny, Adam Spencer and James Vergos flew the flag.

You can read more at the Ripken Baseball website. The BNSW Announcement can be downloaded here.

Hills Holiday Camps ...
Hills will again run 3-day camps in the school holidays, for players aged 9 - 12. They will be from 9:30am to 2:30pm each day.
  • Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, July 8-10
  • Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, July 15-17

Contact John Yard on 9639-3859 or by email.

Singapore in October ...

Last chance for anyone wanting to play overseas this year.

NSWJBL is still looking for players to join the U/13 team to play in the South East Asia Championship in Singapore in October this year. Anyone interested should contact NSWJBL by email, or call John Yard on 9639-3859.

More details on what it looked like last time we went can be seen at the JBL Archive website.

SJC Competitions 2008/09 ...

Although requiring formal ratification from the BNSW Board, it looks like the SJC rep competition will revert to the format of prior years. Specifically:-
  • No change from the old age eligibility rules:- ie December 31st in each year.
  • No Little League at rep level:- just U/12s, U/14s and U/16s as before.
  • Only one Hills team in U/12s, not two.
  • Equipment & base paths as per 2007/8 season

Rep Coach Applications invited ...
Applications are now invited for the coaching staff of our SJC rep teams.

Positions are available for both Head Coach and Assistant Coach in the U/12, U/14 and U/16 SJC teams. Depending on player and coach availability, we may also field teams in the Association Cup competition in one or more of these age-groups.

Applications are to be submitted on the Hills Form A16 {League Officials Application Form} which can be found in the Library of the Hills website, or by clicking here.

Applications close on July 7th, 2008 and should be sent to:-
The Secretary, Hills Junior Baseball Association,
19 Geraldine Avenue,
Baulkham Hills NSW 2153.

Other documents available for download include:-

Although applications for the Association Cup teams will be invited at a later date, please be aware that preference may be given to suitably qualified individuals who apply for a SJC job but fail to secure one. If you know at this stage that you're keen to coach only an Association Cup team, please email the Secretary and say so:- there's no need to fill out any forms at this time.

Any queries please contact John Yard on 9639 3859 or by email.

Website of the Month ...
The very weirdly named Unpage site is our pick this month, carrying through the theme of all things Little league. The Unpage website is dedicated to providing you with current and historical coverage of Little League Baseball state and region tournaments in the major baseball (11-12 years old) division. It has started covering the Australian region this year, and has an impressive range of information and links. This looks like the right place to follow our team's progress in Hong Kong
